Eleni Athanasakos

Dr. Eleni Athanasakos
Lead Paediatric Clinical Scientist, PhD (Medicine)

Eleni is currently the Lead Paediatric Clinical Scientist for the Children’s Anorectal Physiology Service (CAPS) at the Royal London Hospital and is a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer at Barts & The London School of Medicine.   Eleni’s area of expertise is within clinical academia within the area of Paediatric Surgery and Gastroenterology.  Her main area of interest is focused on the pathophysiology and psychosocial aspects of children suffering from bowel conditions such as chronic constipation, faecal incontinence, anorectal anomalies, Hirschsprungs Disease and other allied gastroenterology conditions. She has published over 25 articles including chapters for books within the area and is nationally and internationally renowned for her work.  She chaired the motility working group for BSPGHAN for 3 years and has been involved and led various national consensus.  Her future aspirations are to advance the research within this area using novel diagnostic and management tools.
