Meet the Course Director

Dr. Jemma Yorke

MRCOG, MBBS

 

Dr.Yorke is a Consultant Obstetrician with a specialist interest in Maternal Medicine, antenatal care, and intrapartum management. Since 2018, she has played a central role in shaping high‑quality maternity care at UHND, where she currently serves as Joint Labour Ward Lead and Obstetric Lead. Her leadership extends across the region through her involvement in maternal medicine and preterm birth networks, as well as her contributions to regional and trust‑wide simulation faculties. She has also held influential roles including RCOG Regional Workplace Behaviour Champion, Trust Lead for the Transfusion Committee, and now Training Programme Director for ST5 obstetrics and gynaecology trainees in the North East.

A passionate educator, Dr.Yorke is deeply committed to training the next generation of obstetricians. She is an Educational Supervisor, and longstanding faculty for local simulation training, the ST1 Obstetric Bootcamp, and the annual Step Up course. She regularly teaches on the ROBuST programme, having completed the RCOG Train‑the‑Trainer pathway and contributes to ARCP panels and national O&G recruitment as an experienced interviewer. Her dedication to supporting trainees and promoting high‑quality learning environments was recognised through a nomination for the Tony Lavin Regional Trainer of the Year Award in 2023.

Dr.Yorke is also actively involved in clinical research, holding GCP certification since2012 and contributing to multiple studies within her unit. As Principal Investigator, she leads on important research including the GBS study, the Giant Panda trial, the WILLS study, and the Rainbow Clinic initiative. Alongside her clinical, leadership, and research commitments, she is committed to continually developing her skills, regularly participating in a broad range of national courses and conferences spanning intrapartum care, maternal medicine, human rights, leadership, and obstetric safety.
