Arjan-Bredenoord

Prof. Arjan Bredenoord
Consultant Gastroenterologist
Amsterdam Medical Center

Prof. Albert J. (Arjan) Bredenoord graduated in Medicine from Antwerp University, Belgium. He worked as a research fellow on projects on upper GI physiology at Utrecht University, where he obtained his PhD. He performed his clinical GI training in Utrecht, London and Amsterdam.

Currently, he works as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Amsterdam Medical Center and he is a professor of Neurogastroenterology and Motility at the University of Amsterdam. His primary research focus is on esophageal physiology and pathophysiology, on which he has published over 250 papers and book chapters. He is a pioneer in impedance monitoring and high-resolution manometry and founding member of the HRM consensus group and president of EUREOS, the European EoE Network.

John Gallagher

John Gallagher
Clinical Scientist, Castle Hill Hospital, Hull

John Gallagher studied Physiological Sciences at Newcastle University, where he developed an interest in the aerodigestive tract and the role of gastro-oesophageal refluxate in respiratory disease. He completed the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in GI Physiology at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull, one of three IQIPS-accredited units in the UK, where he continues to practise as a Clinical Scientist.

During his time here, he has developed a specialist interest in upper GI physiology, particularly neurobehavioural disorders such as supragastric belching and rumination syndrome, and established the regional diaphragmatic breathing therapy service to support this under-represented patient group. Alongside his clinical work, he is involved in research exploring the role of oesophageal motility and reflux in chronic cough and interstitial lung disease, in collaboration with the largest dedicated cough clinic in Europe.

John has a number of national roles in GI Physiology across the UK and Ireland, including serving as Education Secretary for the Association of GI Physiology (AGIP) and contributing to specialist GI Physiology teaching at Newcastle University and Atlantic Technological University. Through this work, he supports the development and delivery of GI Physiology education to improve patient care and experience nationwide.
