What you will learn

A comprehensive review of the procedures for multichannel urodynamic testing, discussing elements of the filling cystometrogram, essential elements of voiding pressure flow study and integrated interpretation of urodynamic findings applicable to clinical practice and decision making.

This 2.5-day interactive Comprehensive Urodynamics course is designed to educate all professionals (with 6 months or more of experience) on the Basic Science supporting UDS testing, introduction to hardware, lower urinary tract physiology and pathophysiology of LUT dysfunction, Physical aspects of UDS testing, physical model for UDS testing, Performing and Interpreting UDS testing, safety, quality, and fiscal issues, indications and preparation for UDS evaluation, typical multichannel UDS evaluation sequence, interpreting LUT storage/ filling and emptying, application to clinical decision making, and application of findings in the clinical setting.

 Learning Objectives:

Following the course, participants will be able to:

  • Generate reproducible and valid urodynamic data.
  • Identify fundamental urodynamic findings such as detrusor overactivity, low bladder wall compliance, urodynamic stress incontinence, underactive detrusor function and obstruction.
  • Apply these findings to an integrated interpretation of urodynamic findings applicable to clinical practice and decision making while observing live in-person urodynamic cases.

About the speaker

Mikel Gray, PhD, PNP, FNP, CUNP, CCCN, FAANP, FAAN

Dr Gray is a Professor and Nurse Practitioner with the Department of Urology (School of Medicine) and the Department of Acute and Specialty Care at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

He is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing and is a board member of the Society’s Center for Clinical Investigation. He has authored or co-authored 3 books and authored more than 50 chapters and 200 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has both lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to neurologic urology, and urodynamic testing, urology nursing, wound, ostomy, and continence nursing and evidence-based practice.

Dr Gray is a past president of both the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) and the Certification board for the Urologic Nurses and Associates. He has received awards for contributions to Urologic and WOC nursing respectively and is a National Association for Continence Care Champion
